Coordinator's Corner Weekly Announcements

Quote of the Week: “The world is indeed full of peril and in it there are many dark places.  But still there is much that is fair.  And though in all lands, love is now mingled with grief, it still grows, perhaps, the greater.”  ~ J.R.R. Tolkien, Lord of the Rings

Coordinator’s Message: Saturday, we celebrate Valentine’s Day.  Valentine’s Day takes its name from Saint Valentine, who performed marriages in secret defying Roman Emperor Claudius II who forbade young men to marry in order to bolster his army.  For his defiance, Valentine was executed in A.D. 270. Valentine’s Day was first associated with romantic love by Geoffrey Chaucer in 1382, and since then has been responsible for generating approximately $14 billion dollars in revenue.  More recently, Valentine’s Day marks another day of remembrance– that of the violence perpetuated against women and girls around the world.  Begun in 1998 by playwright Eve Ensler and others, “V-Day” is global movement to highlight the violent pandemic, and eventually, to bring it to an end. This February 14th is the 17th anniversary of the V-Day movement. Go to https://www.vday.org for more information.  However you choose to (or not choose to) celebrate this Valentine’s Day, celebrate safely and with love!  We appreciate you!
